TEHRAN – So far, in the course of building the Tehran-Shomal Freeway project we have not received any report on the possible breach or breaches of the environment code, however, our inspectors are constantly keeping their eyes on the issue, noted Saeed Sefatian, the social consultant to the attorney general.

He also asserted that as the project development gains momentum, the project contractor tries to pay more attention to the environmental issues. We are exercising an effective supervision over the region’s ecosystem, however, he emphasized.

Financial problems is said to have been the reason for the recurrent postponements of the much awaited project. Chinese contractors have recently undertaken to develop significant parts of the work.

Completion of the nation’s mega project, sometimes referred to as the national project, has faced long delays, however, when completed the current distance from the capital Tehran to the regions located on the shores of Caspian Sea would be significantly shortened.

The controversial Tehran-Shomal Freeway project is said to be completed by early 2012.
